As Celtic will play their first competitive game in the Champions League next week, it has been extremely important to win as many new faces as possible in the past seven days.
Fortunately, Ange Postecoglou managed to do just that.
What is the word
The Hoops have welcomed a number of new faces to Paradise, with Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi joining as new signings alongside Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide.
Next up on Postecoglou’s agenda seems to be strengthening defense.
It is believed that Carl Starfelt will succeed Kristoffer Ajer since he was Heads to Brentford, but they also target a right-back.
Who would you prefer at Celtic?
Soppy
Buta
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano went on Twitter on Saturday night and had the the following to say about Celtic’s transfer plans:
“Celtic are looking for a new right-back after an agreement has been reached to sign Carl Starfelt as Rubin Kazan’s center-back. Brandon Soppy is one of the options – talks are also ongoing with Royal Antwerp for Portuguese right-back Aurélio Buta.
Brilliant buta
While Soppy has tons of potential, Buta would be a great alternative if Celtic could close this deal more easily.
The 24-year-old has been on stage for a while and has already been linked to a move to the British coast.
After Buta was touted with a move to Wolves in 2019, he received a striking review from journalist Aster Nzeyimana:
“He’s one of the best full-backs in the Belgian league – that’s a popular opinion.
“He’s grown defensively in the last two years, he admitted that himself. He’s quite a short player, but very talented technically. We have a history of good attacking full-backs in Belgium and he fits in really well. It is decisive for Antwerp. “
Valued at £ 3.1m, the defender is only six feet tall and has a similar statute and plays in a similar manner to Jeremie Frimpong.
The Dutchman moved to Bayer Leverkusen in January and has not been able to replace him permanently since then.
Buta would be a wonderful shot, however. Last season he completed 1.2 successful challenges per game, which was identical to Frimpong’s record in green and white.
The Antwerp defender hugging the right was extremely creative for a player in his position, delivering 0.8 key passes per game.
Only Frimpong, Greg Taylor and Jonjoe Kenny managed to get more out of a defensive persuasive power at Celtic last season.
It is important to remember, however, that the Postecoglou team will be a team with a lot of possession.
So, from an offensive standpoint, Buta’s stats should go up when he moves from Belgium to Scotland this summer.
